The 2nd International Conference on
Glycoprotein & Related
Storage Diseases will create a venue for reviewing research progress
and future objectives for these rare Lysosomal Storage Diseases.
ISMRD's objectives are to present a venue for the leading research
and clinical researchers in the LSD field to meet, present and discuss
current and future opportunities for Glycoprotein Storage Diseases.
It will also enable affected families to gather, meet and support
one another and to interact with attending scientists and physicians.
By doing so, we hope to focus attention on these diseases, the people
they affect and the dedicated professionals who share our vision
of a future devoid of hope.
In the three years since the world's
first dedicated conference on these diseases in Rockville,
Maryland USA, some significant developments for some of these diseases
are underway. These include the ongoing research for an Enzyme Therapy
for Alpha-Mannosidosis by the Hue-Man
Project in Europe, and the initiation of the first Natural
History Study of patients with Mucolipidosis II and III. Additional
milestones are possible for other Glycoprotein Storage Diseases and
these will be presented or proposed during this two day scientific
and family conference.
Funding for this conference was made possible (in part) by NS060583 from National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke (NINDS) and the Office of Rare Diseases (ORD).
