Objectives

The 2nd International Conference on Glycoprotein Storage Diseases will provide a forum for presentation and discussion of the latest advances in pathophysiology and in development of new therapies for the Glycoprotein Storage Diseases. A key objective is to identify new investigators working in the Glycoprotein Storage Disease field and to encourage others to see the importance of the study of these rare and largely underserved types of lysosomal diseases. International experts in the glycoproteinoses have been invited and will join participating families from around the world representing the full range of Glycoprotein Storage Diseases. While the glycoproteinoses are the key focus of this meeting, new insights into therapy and pathogenesis can also be anticipated to provide important advances for other lysosomal and genetic brain diseases as well.

Overview

The professional program consists of one and one-half days of scientific presentations by international leaders in the Glycoprotein Storage Disease field as well as experts in related areas. It will be held in close conjunction with the ISRMD Family Conference at which more than 50 families from the U.S., Canada, Mexico, England, France, Italy, Norway, Japan, Australia, and New Zealand have expressed their desire to attend. Remarkably, this conference will likely represent the single largest assembly of individuals with these rare Glycoprotein Storage Diseases that has ever occurred.

Day 2 of the scientific conference overlaps with the Family Conference, so that joint sessions can be held to bring scientists, clinicians, and affected families into the same forum. In partnership with the Global Organization for Lysosomal Disease (GOLD), we have arranged to have the proceedings of the scientific conference videostreamed on their website and thereby allow individuals unable to attend the meeting to become informed of the details of the workshop. A meeting summary as well as meeting abstracts will be posted on the ISMRD and GOLD websites concluding the conference.
